YouTube Offers Blocking to Thailand

By Agent KGB

YouTube has offered to allow the Thai government to block specific items, according to BBC News, saying that would be better than the country having the entire site blocked. Thailand currently has a ban on YouTube, because of material deemed offensive to the monarch.

Don’t you see any contradiction in there? Youtube supports free speech yet it is teaching Thailand how to block clips. The only thing that Thailand is asking the site to do is to removed these offensive clips. I don’t think this blocking thing will work period.

Google is getting less and less interested in free speech, first China and now this. It might keep Thailand happy for a while but surely there are things offensive to other leaders that won’t accept it, so long-term yeah they’ll have to come up with something else.
